Derrik's Surgery
I had to post a lil something about whats been going on at our house the past few weeks. Its been a hard few weeks on all of us ;) No really though Derrik had a HUGE surgery about a week before Berkley's blessing. We went up to Orem thinking it was a minor surgery on his shoulder and he would only be in a sling for 6 days at MOST... well that's not exactly how it went down. While he was in surgery I went and ran a few errands with Berkley, okay okay more like shopped to keep my mind off him being in surgery and keep me sane during those few hours :) Anyway I came back when they told me to and he was still in Recovery trying to wake up, a little side note I HATE anesthesia and when people go under. It was Derrik's first time and my first time watching someone go under and it was not my cup of tea, it FREAKED me out :( Anyway while I was waiting, B had a little accident if you will, so out to the car we went to try to get it under control. While we were out there Dr Kimball called my phone and said there were a few complications and things were a lot worse than he anticipated. He then started to explain what exactly they found and how he fixed it (most of which was way over my head) but I got the gist of it and knew enough to know it wasn't good. He told me that Derrik would now be in a HUGE sling for 6 weeks and have to rehab his shoulder and not do anything for 5-6 months :( SAD DAY! Poor Derrik woke up and took one look at the gigantic sling and knew he was in for a real treat. We decided to just head for St George while he was out of it since the ride wasn't going to be pleasant at all. He did really good during the ride and even provided me with a little entertainment with some Off the Wall things he would say, that medicine really jacked him up for a few days. Pretty sure he slept from Tuesday to Saturday straight. I finally had to tapper him off his pain meds on Saturday because Sunday morning was Berkley's blessing and I didn't need him saying anything Crazy into the Microphone, or even worse naming our daughter something new and super creative :) It was an interesting few days to say the least. I felt and looked like a walking ZOMBIE! Never been so tired in my life, no not even when I had B and she was newborn! I was one tired girl and poor Derrik was one SORE Boy! It has made us both be so much more thankful for our health that's for dang sure.
He wasn't allowed to shower for 6 days but we decided with the amount of oil he was collecting in his hair and on his face it would be for the better to clean up for Sunday :) It has now been 6 weeks and he just got his sling off (HOORAY) and he can even kinda hold Berkley now for the first time in forever so that's been nice too. I have to tease him that my arm is bigger than his now since I've been lugging Berkley around all by my lonesome 24/7 and his arm has just been deteriorating under all the ice packs/ gauze/ etc. He's a pretty sad boy and can't wait to get back to the weight room and feel better again... All in Good Time! Here are a few pic's I had to snap so we could both remember the misery :)
Right before surgery showing off his sweet outfit!
Right after :( He looked SO ROUGH it was terrible. Kinda funny though because he was still kinda out of it and kept saying such funny things to me.
And this is where he lived for about 4 weeks :( We had to bring Berkley's rocking chair from her nursery so he had something to be somewhat comfortable on!
Poor guy sporting a bib so he wouldn't spill all over his fancy sling!
My AMAZING Mom!  She came and saved the day, okay actually saved my LIFE! I was in serious panic mode after quickly realizing that there was No Way I was going to be able to get everything done for the Blessing. I had way to much on my plate so I called her in a panic to come to my rescue :) She came a day early and helped out SOOOOO MUCH (not sure how I got so lucky to have such an amazing mom) I love that we are so close and are quite alike in lots of ways too, she's always so much fun and in the best mood I love it! Sorry that was a side note but I just needed to brag on her for a sec! This picture tells you a little about the type of person she is. On saturday night she asked Derrik what he needed and if he wanted her to give him a foot rub cause in her mind foot rubs are the BEST Medicine :) So she sat down on the floor and asked for a bottle of lotion and got to work, Best Lady Around!!!
Berkley couldn't sit by her daddy for lots and lots of days so when he finally got a little better to were she was able to sit on his lap on the recliner, she was in awe with his sweet beard :)

Poor guy :( He looked pretty rough there for a few weeks. So glad he's feeling better now!
